Title: Online research: Collaboration for deeper exploration, evaluation and integration of understanding
Although our students may live and breath digital culture outside of school, evidence suggests that many students find online reading, critical evaluation and the integration of ideas from multiple texts for academic purposes very difficult. After a collaborative online research activity, Dr. Hagerman will introduce the theory of New Literacies. She will also share research on teaching strategies that have been found to support the learning of foundational online reading and research skills including developing questions, locating information, critically evaluating multimodal texts, synthesizing information and communicating understandings.
